| DGSA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) |
 |
 |
| |
Under EU legislation many companies shipping
dangerous goods by road are required to appoint a Dangerous Goods
Safety Adviser (DGSA). The DGSA has numerous responsibilities, but
these include:
- Monitoring compliance with the law
- Advising on the transport of dangerous goods and relevant training requirements
- Preparing an annual report of the employers’ activities
- Monitoring a range of procedures and safety measures
- Investigating and compiling reports on any accidents or emergencies

If you manufacture, transport, store or transport
dangerous goods for another, you may need one.
There are many exemptions and circumstances in which the DGSA is
not required. So, if you're not entirely certain, why not contact
us for a free, no obligation assessment?

Yes,
you can employ anyone who holds a current, valid Certificate Of
Training. However, employing a "consultant" such as Route
Logisitic Support Services has several advantages:
- No extra costs for training, manuals, examinations etc.
- No need for holiday or sickness payments and cover.
- No need for permanent office space.
- Complete freedom to drop one DGSA in favour of another if they fail to perform.
- An external DGSA cannot just leave to join another company after receiving all that expensive training you've provided.
- We are fully conversant with road, sea and air regulations.

No,
only for transport by road, rail and on inland waterways. Sea and
air are governed by their own regulations, which require you to
have an "Approved Person" trained in these regulations.
Invariably the dangerous goods are at sometime transported by road
or rail to the port or airport.

- You think you are sending dangerous goods which have not been declared as dangerous.
- You decide your business must comply with the dangerous goods regulations
to avoid costly potential litigation in the event of an incident.
- Your haulier is requesting dangerous goods notes and emergency instructions
in writing for your shipments travelling in the UK.
- You are not sure if these documents are required for domestic road
transport.
- Some of your goods were not prepared for shipment in accordance
with the air regulations, and leaked on the aircraft.
- You need clear, easy to understand procedures to avoid a recurrence
- Someone has mentioned that you can use the limited quantity provisions
and save money on packaging, labelling and documentation

As a general rule of thumb, the bigger the company,
the more hazardous goods handled, stored or transported the higher
the cost. Naturally we are very sympathetic to Owner-Drivers and
will adjust our costs and payment schedules to accommodate them
wherever possible.
We guarantee to beat any like-for-like written quotation for DGSA
services by at least 10%.
